„Obnoxious“ is an uncompromisingly raucous assault on the senses that sees The Sewer Cats at their feral best. The new album is the band’s most sonically diverse work yet, showcasing their desire to push the boundaries of what a two piece can do. The Sewer Cats trademark fuzzy garage punk/riot grrrl sound digs deeper into doom-driven bluesy hardcore, whilst the duo also subvert a range of genres with a nod to grunge and post-rock, and even country. Lyrically, The Sewer Cats return to their ‘hackles-up’ patriarchy-smashing roots, directing their scrappy scrutiny towards a range of sociopolitical themes in their tongue-in-cheek snarky fashion. ‘Obnoxious’ also sees more tender, emotional and melodic moments, ultimately serving as a love letter to DIY punk ethics.
