“On 17 October 2020, the right-wing perpetrator Melvin Sch. targeted anti-fascist counter-demonstrators with his pick-up truck on the fringes of a party event of the “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) in the community centre of Henstedt-Ulzburg. In doing so, he took the deaths of people into account and injured four people, some of them seriously. Those affected by the car attack are still receiving medical treatment. One of the victims is no longer able to work. After the police and the majority of the media initially played down the crime as a car accident and depoliticised it, anti-fascist research was able to expose Melvin Sch. as a right-wing minded perpetrator with connections to local AfD functionaries and neo-fascist structures and contributed to the public prosecutor’s office finally opening a preliminary investigation for attempted manslaughter. Its main hearing has meanwhile been opened, which means that the start of the trial against the perpetrator at the regional court in Kiel can be expected in the coming months. On this occasion, we call on all anti-fascists to stand in solidarity with those affected by the fascist and racist attack – one of the injured comrades is a black woman – during the trial and to name the act for what it was: another act in the long and varied history of right-wing terror in Germany, which has claimed at least 218 lives since 1990 alone.”
