The Californian-Scottish rap and producer duo Drowning Dog & DJ Malatesta, or DDM for short, create music that speaks out against social inequality. As part of the radical, international, alternative rap scene, they follow in the tradition of Dead Prez and Bonnot, giving a voice to those who are usually not heard.
With her unique rapping style, Drowning Dog floats on DJ Malatesta’s bass beats. Their stage presence is an explosion of hip hop with a hardcore and punk attitude. Drowning Dog moves between the stage and the audience to the brilliant sound of DJ Malatesta, combining a passion for music with anti-authoritarian, radical rap lyrics. She is one of the most talented MCs in political rap.
After more than 300 concerts in the USA and Europe, they have set up camp in Berlin. In 2017, after 3 albums, a 7-inch and 12-inch and various collaborations, they released their ‘Sick of this shit’ EP and in 2023 the double LP ‘Gen Pop’ on Fire and Flames Music.
